Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Spelling Bee (the “Activity”), a Discord Activity, processes when you use it, and how that information is handled. We have designed the Activity to use as little personal data as possible. We do not sell your data, show advertising, use tracking or analytics cookies, or build advertising profiles.
1. Information we process
| Data | Source | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Discord user ID, display name, and avatar | Discord, via the OAuth identify permission (the only permission we request) |
To identify you to the other players in your room and show your name and character in the game. |
| In-game actions — the letters/words you type during your turn, your camera look direction, emotes you trigger, and derived stats (typing speed, accuracy) | You, while playing | To run the live multiplayer match and show your turn to the other players in your room. |
| The word to be spelled (a dictionary word, not personal data) | The game’s built-in word list | Sent to a text-to-speech provider to generate the audio that reads the word aloud. |
We do not collect your email address, your Discord messages, your friends or server lists, your payment information, or your real-world identity. The Activity does not record, store, or transmit microphone audio — voice chat is handled entirely by Discord and is outside this Activity.
2. How long we keep it
Your Discord identity and in-game actions are processed in memory, only for the duration of your session, and are discarded when you leave or the game room closes. We do not write your name, Discord ID, or gameplay to a database.
The only information stored beyond a session is non-personal and aggregate:
- A running count of the total number of text characters sent to the text-to-speech service (used to monitor usage and cost). This is a single number and contains no personal data.
- For public match-making rooms, a temporary directory entry containing a room code, the number of players, and the room’s status. This contains no names or Discord IDs and is deleted automatically when the room is empty.
3. Who can see your information
- Other players in your room. Multiplayer is the point of the Activity: your display name, avatar/character, emotes, and the letters you type on your turn are visible in real time to the other players in the same game room.
- Service providers we use to run the Activity (described below). We do not otherwise share, rent, or sell your information.
4. Service providers
The Activity relies on the following third parties to function. Each acts as a processor for the limited purpose described, and your use is also subject to their privacy policies:
| Provider | Role | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Discord | Delivers the Activity and provides your identity via OAuth | Standard Discord platform data; the Activity receives your user ID, display name, and avatar. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the game server and serves the app (Cloudflare Workers & Durable Objects) | Real-time game traffic; processes connection metadata such as IP addresses as part of delivering the service. Stores only the non-personal aggregates described in Section 2. |
| Google Cloud Text-to-Speech | Generates the spoken audio of the word to be spelled | The dictionary word to synthesize. No personal data is sent. |
| ElevenLabs | Alternative text-to-speech provider (may be used in place of Google) | The dictionary word to synthesize. No personal data is sent. |
5. Cookies and tracking
The Activity does not use advertising or analytics cookies and does not track you across other sites or apps. The app may store small, non-identifying settings (such as your audio volume preferences) locally in your own browser; this never leaves your device.
6. Children
The Activity is not directed to children under the age required to use Discord (at least 13, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone below that age.
7. Your choices and rights
Because we do not store your personal information after your session, there is generally no retained personal data to access, correct, or delete. You can stop all processing at any time by leaving or closing the Activity. You may also manage the Activity’s access to your Discord account from User Settings → Authorized Apps in Discord. For any privacy question or request, contact us using the details below.
8. International users
The service providers above may process data in the United States and other countries. By using the Activity you understand that limited data may be processed in locations outside your own country as part of delivering the service.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
